Rau's Respiratory Care Pharmacology has been the gold standard for respiratory care pharmacology for many years. It is easy to understand. The illustrations are well done. There is a workbook that is a complement for this text and makes it easier to process the information. I am teaching an online class in Respiratory Care Pharmacology and this is the text I use. The self assessment questions at the end of the chapter make it easy to assess learning. The list of references also give us Key Points that help us to focus on particularly important information.

As with any pharmacology book, there is a lot of chemistry-related topics involved. I am not very competent when it comes to chemistry and I was lost many times in this book. At times I felt that Rau spends too much "chemical-jumbo". I found these parts of the book to be very heavy noticed myself re-reading several sections in the chapters.
Given that, this book (which we referred to as Rau in our class) is structured well and I noted that I was building up as I was reading. There was never a moment where I felt like, "What is Rau talking about?" because I had reviewed it in prior chapters. This book is great to use as a manual because it contains so many useful diagrams are pictures.
I would definitely recommend this book to those in the health field who need to learn more about, well, respiratory care pharmacology.
1. Would I read it again? Yes, but only as a reference.
2. Is this a keeper? Probably not, because pharmaceutics are constantly being updated; and you would not use this unless you are a student or going into research.
