The latest in the Stone Barrington series is good - not great - but this isn't a treatise on nuclear power either. It is an entertaining story meant to take you "away" for awhile to a different place with problems you won't ever, hopefully, encounter.
This time out Stone has a minor part in a group of characters that are trying to locate and kill a woman who is bombing buildings from London to New York. If there is a main character, it would be Holly. In fact, I often wondered why Stone was following Holly around as he had little to do with the story line.
More fascinating than the good guys was the way this woman bomber could get out of places she had bombed with no one the wiser. She had an amazing talent and her "friends" had even more amazing connections.
The story is a nice mix of the personal lives of the characters and thriller without too much of either. It is a story to pleasantly pass the time - good but not particularly memorable.

This latest "Stone Barrington" book by Stuart Woods really should be called a "Holly Barker" book as she is the main character in the whole book and Stone is barely in it at all. I loved the Stone Barrington series in the past but I have noticed that some of the recent books in this series have not been up to par. It seems Mr. Woods has gotten tired of writing about Stone Barrington. Perhaps he should start a Herbie Fisher series of books since Herbie has been re-invented from the bumbling hanger on, inept and naive, and has been turned into a wealthy skilled lawyer of intelligence and wit. It took me a while to forget the old bumbling Herbie and embrace the new hip Herbie in the Barrington books. I could hardly believe it was the same character! Herbie in Collateral Damage is also barely mentioned. Holly Barker and Kate Lee take center stage in this book. Just saying, if you are expecting a Stone Barrington book, think again on this one. --- Karen
