In New York, a man sensing patterns in the stock market racks up $300 billion. In Chicago, a woman can go invisible by being where no one is looking. They’re called “brilliants,” and since 1980, one percent of people have been born this way. Nick Cooper is among them; a federal agent, Cooper has gifts rendering him exceptional at hunting terrorists. His latest target may be the most dangerous man alive, a brilliant drenched in blood and intent on provoking civil war. But to catch him, Cooper will have to violate everything he believes in—and betray his own kind.
From Marcus Sakey, “a modern master of suspense” (Chicago Sun-Times) and “one of our best storytellers” (Michael Connelly), comes an adventure that’s at once breakneck thriller and shrewd social commentary; a gripping tale of a world fundamentally different and yet horrifyingly similar to our own, where being born gifted can be a terrible curse.Books with free ebook downloads available Epub Brilliance [Kindle Edition]

Epub Brilliance
As one first reads `Brilliance' it almost recalls shades of X-Men, but the story and plot soon overwhelm that. Parents used to wish their child might be gifted, now for many it seems more of a curse.
This is America, but an America where, since 1980 some children are born with special abilities, they look like everyone else, but they are brilliant in some aspect. It might be the ability to see the twists and turns of the stock market, or another person's movements, build a valve to replace an artificial heart, or to program software to accomplish the impossible. Some of these brilliants use their gifts for good and others for their own gain, or revenge and civil war... bringing down world financial systems or military defenses. An agency with extraordinary powers is formed - the DAR Equitable Services. Their best and most trusted agent is a brilliant, an abnorm - Nick Cooper, working with normals to hunt down brilliants that endanger society.
For those who have experienced life as a military brat, the background of Cooper is so aptly described. There are clever scenes and twists and turns in the plot that show both sides -the norms and the abnorms.
There are points and names, especially in the beginning where information is not fully disclosed, until pages later, or at times the motivations of the brilliants are murky.
There is a most interesting and absorbing secondary plot, Nick Cooper's family; an ex-wife, with whom he is on excellent terms, a normal son and a daughter who is also a brilliant and who will soon be tested and sent to the abhorrent schools where brilliants are exiled to, taken from her family forever. Cooper volunteers to be blamed for a massive bombing to hunt down the most sought after brilliant of them all...John Smith.
