I've been in wound care for 10 years and there is so much to learn. Hundreds of books are written for the beginning level. For those of you who are serious about learning the real stuff, at a more advanced level, this is the book. So much emphasis is placed on staging pressure wounds, keeping a wound moist, what products to buy, etc., etc. What is really important to learn is how wounds actually heal, then all of the other stuff will fall into place.(Chapter 2 "The Wound Healing Process") There are important phases of healing that mean everything but often there is little taught about them. Ever hear the saying "treat the whole patient and not the hole in the patient"? This book has that covered too. (Part II "Assessing the patient") For those of you ready to go the next step of getting patient access to real wound care, this book will also help you. (Chapter 34 "Developing a Clinical Wound Care Program") Our patients and their families come to us and trust us to have the knowledge to be able to help them. It's our responsibility to actually acquire that knowledge.

Fantastic reference!
The chapters are written by many of the best practitioners in the field and the color photos and illustrations are striking. There are also "Pearls" that are highlighted areas of important points.
I am a physician specializing in wound care and was thrilled to find that this book is so up to date with information about modalities for wound care such as contact and non-contact ultrasound and laser therapy. This book is very complete in its coverage of wounds. It is probably best as a reference on specific points or for those with some experience in wounds; it would be overwhelming to try to tackle it as a novice. I believe it is a must have as a reference for a wound clinic or inpatient wound program.
